With more than 3.5 million Texans traveling this holiday season, the chances of being in a car accident increase exponentially. Getting in a car accident this holiday season could really add to the stress of the holiday season. Unfortunately, though, accidents can and do happen during the holidays, partly because of all of the holiday traffic. These helpful tips can help you drive safely during this hectic time of the year.
Simply Put, Pay Extra Attention!
First of all, as always, it is important to pay attention when you’re behind the wheel. You might have a lot going on, and you might be receiving more phone calls, text messages and social media alerts than ever. Stay off of the phone, and make sure that you pay attention when you’re driving this holiday season.
Don’t Drink and Drive!.. and Don’t Let Others Drink and Drive!
There is nothing wrong with having a glass of wine or a cocktail at a holiday party but avoid overindulging and driving. This puts you and others on the road at serious risk, and it can also lead to legal trouble. Also, keep an eye out for those around you who overindulge! Offer a friend a ride home if you feel that they have drank a little too much! You could be saving someone’s life!
Give Yourself Plenty of Time! Better Late Than Never!
Be aware that there might be more traffic than usual during the holiday season. Give yourself plenty of time to get where you’re going and avoid speeding or driving aggressively if you’re in a rush. It’s never a good idea to drive too fast or to drive dangerously, whether you’re dealing with holiday traffic or not.
Be Mindful of Weather Conditions! In Texas, We’re Not Used to Driving in the Wintry Mix!
Although we live in Texas and winter weather is not very long lasting, during the holiday season, there is always a possibility of wet and icy road conditions. Winter weather conditions can be quite dangerous, so be mindful of weather conditions. You could be at a higher risk of getting in an accident if you drive when there is snow and ice on the road, particularly if you aren’t properly prepared to drive in these weather conditions.
