Understanding Attorney’s Fees at Sandoval Law Firm, PLLC
If you suffer a personal injury in an auto accident, work injury, slip and fall or other type of personal injury case, you will find yourself looking for a personal injury attorney. One of the first questions you will be asking yourself is how personal injury lawyers charge for their services. An attorney-client relationship is one built on trust and you should expect that your personal injury attorney will explain how he or she will be paid out of the settlement or award collected in your case. If you have hired a lawyer without receiving a good explanation about how the fees work, you may end up having a dispute with your lawyer over fees at the conclusion of your case. We don’t want that. That’s why, at Sandoval Law Firm, PLLC, Houston personal injury attorney Hector Sandoval does his best to personally explain attorney’s fees at the very start of the case. Providing a thorough explanation of what you should expect from our firm from the beginning allows us to do our job more effectively!
What are Contingent Fees?
As your personal injury lawyer, one of my first steps would be to discuss the following with you:
- Expectations in Your Case;
- Details of Representation; and
- The Process of a Personal Injury Case.
Again, it’s important to hire a lawyer that explains these matters to you sufficiently and to your satisfaction. In explaining the details of representation, we will explain to you that your case will be handled on a contingent fee basis, meaning that you will not be charged hourly or, will you be required to pay a fee at the beginning. The fee is contingent or dependent on Sandoval Law Firm, PLLC wining your case. We will collect attorney’s fees when your case is WON and that’s the only way will be able to charge our fee. IF WE DON’T WIN, YOU DON’T PAY!
What Percentage Does Sandoval Charge in Personal Injury Cases?
At our firm, the fee is a percentage of the total settlement or award in your case. This will be explained in detail in your contract. The contingent fee only changes in percentage if the case could not be resolved informally with the insurance and we are required to file a lawsuit on your behalf. While the percentages differ from firm to firm, what is customary is that you will have a bump up in the fee when the case has to be filed.
When hiring an injury lawyer, you should be close attention to the details of these percentages and if it is not properly explained to you, YOU NEED TO ASK about how you will pay for your personal injury attorney in your case.
